The content of your cover letter should be brief and structured, avoiding lengthy repetition of information covered in your CV.
EMPLOYEE - CV / Example

THE CV SHOULD CONTAIN:

Preparation

A badly prepared CV challenges the credibility of its contents. If you cannot produce a professional document about yourself, an employer may conclude that you are unlikely to have the competence to fill an important job.

Bullet Points

Bullet points break up a CV well; however, they should not just consist of one or two words.

Each bullet point should give the reader a feel for:

- Software used on each project
- When you are/were responsible for a particular task (primary influence)
- When you assisted on a particular task (secondary influence)
- Break down projects into specific tasks. Any ad hoc projects must be backed up with examples of issues that were tackled on this basis.
- Highlight achievements to demonstrate your successes

Honesty

Do not make false or exaggerated claims. If the interviewer identifies inconsistencies in your CV, you will not be successful.

Review

It may take several drafts to develop the right style. When you think you have got it, ask a couple of friends/colleagues.
